The primary purpose of this role is to act as a customer-facing Project Engineer in various sites (including military establishments), providing subject matter expertise and technical support to the customer and Project Manager. The incumbent will oversee the installation Team Leader, leading and managing a team of mechanical and electrical fitters installing equipment to Level 3 Guidance documentation in MoD establishments and platforms. This individual may often be the most senior STS Defence representative present and as such, will be customer-facing with a proactive business development focus.   

The Project Engineer is responsible for:

  • Providing Engineering advice, expertise and technical support as required by the customer and/or Project Manager
  • The proactive exploitation of Business Development opportunities on sites, nurturing and maintaining a strong relationship with the customer
  • The management and maintenance of an STS Defence site office within sites
  • The management of local sub-contracted services associated with a Project on sites
  • The leadership and management of Installation Fitter team members, to include conduct of individual appraisals
  • Monitoring and updating team individuals’ training logs
  • Production and review of individuals’ probation and development forms
  • Control of all tools and their allocation, maintaining an appropriate, auditable tool log
  • Management of COTS and GFE equipment transfer from STS Defence to platforms
  • Preparation of Contractor Involvement Forms (CIF) and security access for team activities
  • Ensuring a detailed understanding of relevant Guidance documentation to enable the planning and articulation of the work package
  • Provision and security of all tools, Bill of Material items and associated equipment necessary for work package completion
  • Collation and presentation of all necessary paperwork required for successful Installation Inspection
  • Supporting the Project and Resource Managers to ensure efficient use of skilled manpower, to include proactive identification of employment opportunities when no obvious tasking is apparent
  • Collation of team timesheets on a task basis, accurately reflecting appropriate Job Numbers
  • Ensuring safe working conditions and procedures for all team activities, raising paperwork as required
  • Customer facing during delivery of work packages, keeping Project Manager fully appraised of progress
  • Delivery of installation work packages against agreed Time, Cost and Quality parameters
  • Provision of written/verbal task progress updates as directed by the PM
  • The assessment of hours and skills required for potential tasks and projects, in support of the costing process
  • The identification of skills/training shortfalls within the team
  • Continuous improvement within the team, their processes and output

The Project Engineer should have:

  • A proven history of leadership in an electrical & mechanical installation/fitting role
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • An awareness of the Health & Safety Act 1974
  • Proven experience of the development of work packages, through the interpretation of relevant Guidance
  • Packages.
  • An in-date passport and full driving licence

  • SECURITY – All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level.  Additional restrictions may apply on certain Defence programmes
