Engineering Technician – Network

The Engineering Technician (Network) is to assist the subject matter expert on all IT and network related projects and tasks. The incumbent will also support the design, configuration, installation and updating of network hardware and software and the provision of any necessary documentation.

The Engineering Technician (Network) is responsible for:

  • The provision of IT and network technical solutions and support to the projects
  • General helpdesk and IT support activities both in the UK and abroad as directed
  • Continuous improvement of network engineering, maintaining a leading edge capability
  • Leading the planning, delivery and assurance of customer and in-house work packages
  • Oversight, direction and guidance to the project, through planning and delivery of installation and support tasks
  • The provision of essential project documents and internal work instructions
  • The provision of technical input into bid preparation and contracts
  • The development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures
  • The exploitation of opportunities for further business development
  • Remaining available for the provision of an on-call, out of hours support for urgent operational requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience of live networking systems
  • Network design experience
  • Experience of working in an IT support environment
  • An understanding of Wi-Fi principles and architecture
  • Working knowledge of VPNs
  • Strong communication and organisational skills suitable for customer facing tasks
  • The ability to work unsupervised, demonstrate initiative, and be comfortable in a team environment
  • An in-date passport and clean category B driving licence

Desirable Requirements:

  • CCNA/CWNA/CCNP network engineering with relevant Defence sector experience
  • Knowledge of MS Server infrastructure / Exchange / Windows Server
  • Knowledge of Linux architecture and commands
  • An understanding of ITIL practices

  • SECURITY – All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level. Additional restrictions may apply on certain defence programmes
