Celebrating International Day of Charity at STS Defence

The 5th of September marks the International Day of Charity, a global observance established by the United Nations to raise awareness, inspire generosity, and encourage charitable activities across the world. It’s a day to reflect on how we can all play a part in making our communities better places to live and work.

In honour of this important day, we’re proud to spotlight our ongoing support for the Rowans Hospice – a much-loved local charity that was nominated by our staff. The Rowans Hospice provides specialist palliative care to those living with life-limiting illnesses, along with support for their families and carers. Their compassionate, holistic approach ensures dignity, comfort, and care for patients during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

As part of our broader Social Value commitment, we believe in giving back to the communities we operate in – not just through financial donations, but by taking a hands-on, engaged approach to charitable support. Our partnership with the Rowans Hospice is an example of how we aim to make a lasting difference:

• Staff-Nominated Support: We believe the causes our people care about matter most, and we empower our teams to nominate and select the charity we support each year
• Active Participation: From fundraising events and sponsored challenges to volunteering days and community initiatives, our teams regularly get involved to offer their time and energy
• Raising Awareness: Through our digital channels, internal communications, and community outreach, we help amplify the voice of the Rowans Hospice and promote their essential services to a wider audience
