Engineering Technician
The Engineering Technician (ET) is responsible for the successful delivery of engineering support to secure communications equipment installed in Royal Naval ships, submarines and establishments to agreed timescales and budgets, while adhering to specified quality parameters. The ET will apply engineering, mechanical and electrical fitter skills for a customer facing role in fault finding, repairing and upgrading equipment, installing cabling and equipment, maintenance & testing of onsite reference systems and report writing. The ET will also ideally support IT and network related tasks.
Duties
The Engineering Technician is responsible for:
• providing off site support to the engineering team
• fault finding and maintenance of equipment on board ships
• provision of skilled installation of cabling and equipment
• testing of equipment, spares and reference systems
• deploying anywhere in the world inclusive of Contractor on Deployed Operations (CONDO)
• completing work to time, cost and quality
• ensuring that Health & Safety policy is adhered to
• provision of written/verbal task progress updates
• reviewing, updating and improving internal processes and user technical documents
• assessment of hours and skills required for potential tasks and projects
Skills/Qualifications
The Engineering Technician should have:
• proven experience and qualifications in electrical and mechanical installation
• proven experience and qualifications in equipment maintenance
• strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
• an awareness of Health & Safety Act 1974
• the ability to work unsupervised, demonstrate initiative, and be comfortable in a team environment
• an in-date Passport and clean category B driving licence
• experience of working with Multi Media systems
• experience of working with secure communications systems
• desirable experience in IT and networking
• desirable experience in the naval , maritime environment
• Test & Inspection City & Guilds 2394/5
• British Standard (BS7671) for Electrical Installation (17th Edition)
