2023 Graduate and Apprentice Intake Update!

STS Defence is delighted to announce that this year’s intake of Graduates and Apprentices is progressing well. The scheme saw new graduates and apprentices joining our team to develop their skills, expand their knowledge and start their careers in a dynamic defence and aerospace industry. Where we pride ourselves as being a pioneering engineering company, we recognise the importance of a STEM education, and the building of knowledge and skills it provides.

This year’s scheme saw six graduates fresh out of university join the company, with five of them operating in the Technology department and one in Business Development. There were also two new apprentices, with Katie joining as an Advanced Engineering Apprentice following her work experience with us the previous year, and Ben joining the Procurement team as an Apprentice Buyer.

Graduate Electronic Engineer James has said; “As a graduate, I still have a lot to learn but I am determined to reach expectations and expand on my role. I have thoroughly enjoyed my role so far as all staff members are incredibly friendly and easy to chat to.”

Ben agrees that “my time at STS Defence so far has been challenging yet rewarding! I am always learning something new which is great and I am always being pushed to be as the best I can be. Because my role involves a large range of commodities, I am always interacting and working with new people – sharing the company’s vision and demonstrating values which are integral to the future of both my career and the company’s growth. Procurement has always fascinated me and I have been given the opportunity to venture into this field and I couldn’t think of a better place to be.”

Katie provides an account of being an Apprentice at STS Defence and how her work ties in with her college life: “I’m mostly focusing on my college work specifically Engineering Drawings where I’m practicing to improve my freehand sketches, pictorial drawings and orthographic drawings so that in future I can get them up to the British Standard. Additionally I will be covering CAD drawings later on in the unit.”

Managing Director, Jonathan Bowley, said “It is great to see young talent of varied backgrounds join our STS Defence team, and we are delighted they’ve chosen to begin their careers with us.”
