Red Funnel Goes Green with STS Defence
17th April 2019STS Defence is proud to announce the development of a revolutionary Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, IConIC®, that is now being used by Southampton to Isle of Wight ferry operator, Red Funnel to help drive improved ferry performance.
IConIC has been developed by STS Defence to autonomously measure optimum live engine performance whilst also predicting future fault symptoms long before they are even seen through current mechanical methods. This not only offers enhanced performance and availability but also delivers improved fuel efficiency by allowing the engine to continuously operate in the ‘green zone’. This technology now underpins Red Funnel’s long-term environmental strategy ‘Red Goes Green’.
IConIC was first installed in 2017 and since then Red Funnel have worked closely with STS Defence to refine and hone IConIC to fit their vision of a condition-based maintenance regime that will see improved reliability and efficiency savings across their fleet.
Mark Slawson, Operations Director at Red Funnel, commented:
“Working with STS Defence to prove the benefits of AI for real-time analysis of engine vibration, has already highlighted issues that we would otherwise have missed and which could have proved costly to resolve. I am convinced that IConIC will significantly improve the reliability of our platforms and their efficient operation and supports our ‘Red Goes Green’ environment strategy.”
STS Defence is launching IConIC at the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo in Amsterdam in June and exhibiting on stand E3080 in Hall 12, RAL.
