STS Defence Delivers First In-House IOSH Managing Safely Course

13th June 2025

At STS Defence, safety isn’t just a priority – it’s part of who we are. We’re proud to share that our first group of employees has successfully completed the IOSH Managing Safely course, marking a significant step in our mission to create the safest possible working environment for everyone.

This cohort was the first to take part in a course delivered entirely in-house, led by our Senior Health and Safety Advisor, Lee Cowdrey. Bringing the training into the business has allowed us to make the learning more relevant and accessible, helping to build stronger safety awareness where it matters most, every day.

The IOSH Managing Safely course is a globally recognised qualification, designed to equip managers and supervisors with the practical tools and knowledge they need to take responsibility for safety in their teams. Throughout the programme, our participants developed their understanding of key areas including risk assessment, incident investigation, legal duties, and the importance of a proactive safety culture.

Investing in People, Strengthening Our Culture
We know that health and safety isn’t the job of just one department – it’s a shared responsibility. That’s why we’re investing in the development of those who make daily decisions that affect the safety of our people and operations.
“The successful delivery of this course reflects our commitment to embedding safety into every part of the business,” said Paul Frampton, Health and Safety Manager at STS Defence. “By giving our people the skills and confidence to lead on safety, we’re not only protecting our teams but we are raising standards across the business.”

Leading by Example
This first cohort brought together individuals from across Operations, Projects, Engineering, and Facilities, each demonstrating a strong commitment to learning and a willingness to lead by example. Their engagement sets the tone for what we hope will be a lasting, positive shift in how safety is understood and prioritised at every level.

Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning. The in-house delivery of IOSH Managing Safely is the first phase of a wider training programme designed to ensure that all employees receive consistent, high-quality support. Ongoing learning, development, and knowledge-sharing will continue to be central to our approach.

Congratulations to our first IOSH Managing Safely graduates. Your dedication is helping to shape a safer, stronger future for STS Defence.
